We start in 1975 with War.  Their hit "Why Can't We Be Friends was certified Gold.

In 1980 the soundtrack to "Fame" went Gold, also, the football jersey wearing shooting star Christopher Cross went "Sailing" in the Gold sea on this day.

And in 1988 the Album "Heart Break" by New Edition went Gold.  It featured the #1 hit "Can You Stand the Rain".
