I saw a post on Facebook from someone I know that showed flag-draped caskets and a message of remembering the theme and purpose of the holiday.  Sadly, I didn't have the heart to break it to him that Labor Day has nothing to do with  Memorial Day or 4th of July.   Its mission is fairly straightforward: to America's working people - and that's a whole lot of us - the nation says thank you.

There are some who think we ought to reflect and study on the American Labor movement on this day. I can't think of a larger insult to those people who just want a little bit of a break from the drudgery. Americas workers toil and sweat five days a week,  an extra day to enjoy the family and hug their children is almost priceless .

The United States Department of Labor has put together a fun and informative presentation on their website. You may not have realized how esteemed this holiday really is -  indeed, there is still some debate as to which individual was responsible - and how steeped in over 150 years of history,  going back to the bad old days when workers were paid eight dollars a day for 18 hours of intense, backbreaking, soul – crushing tedium.
