Sure, reading is the most important thing anyone ever learns in school. But, for me, it's been a career. I read everyday for my job. In fact, I have to be so good at reading, that I have to make sound like I'm not reading.

When I was first taught to read, it was out loud. My parents would read to me out loud. My teachers. Then when I first started reading, it was out loud. The first time a teacher asked me to read to myself. I did. Out loud. She repeated her instruction.

"Read to yourself".

Again, I did. Out loud. I could't understand what she meant. She didn't say "think" the words. That would have messed me up even more. She tried and tried to get me to read to myself, and I just couldn't do it without talking out loud. It took watching another kid do it. Finally a little light went of in my head, and I understood what was expected of me. I've been reading to myself ever since.

I don't just do it for work. I enjoy reading. The majority of my friends have the "wait for the movie" mentality, which drives me crazy, because there has never been a movie made that can compare to a book.
