Back to 1985 for this one. met somebody once thought this was Prince...or Shelia E. Wrong lady on both counts, fella. She came from the camp of that other R and B freakazoid. She was Teena Marie. Yes, she was.

She was quite the anomaly. A short little white girl making waves in the urban music neighborhood. Thank Rick James. Mary Christine Brockert, was known as Tina as a kid, later Teena Marie, then finally Lady T, courtesy of funk and cocaine pioneer, Rick James. After a stint and legal battle with Motown, she signed with Epic/CBS in the early eighties and embarked on the most fruitful part of her recording career. In 1985 she achieved her biggest crossover hit with today's song, from the album Starchild, taking the song all the way to number four in March of that year.

Teena Marie passed away in 2010 of what was termed as natural causes.

And she is the moving force behind today's K-101.7 Song Of The Day!
