For those who remember eighties music as loads of twinkly twanky keyboards and cheap drum machines banging away while ladies in pink leg warmers and tights and headbands exercised, the Georgia Satellites might come as a big surprise with their 1986 top ten hit. Which rocks! Read on!

By 1986, classic rock had been shunted off into it's own paddock, and thriving, loud guitar rock had been pretty much been banished from the upper echelons of the pop charts, especially top ten in the top ten. Only smiley happy girl metal was selling, like the Bon Jovi song that kept this song from hitting number one. Which made this song stand out even more. With it's Bullwinkle guitars and a lead singer with a very obvious gap toothed twaaang. This ain't Bon Jovi. There's some grit in there, under the dopey  lyrics. One writer even said this was something akin to what Chuck Berry was doing in the fifties. And there's some country in there, as well. So much so that Garth Brooks has been known to cover this song. And now, I hate it.

And with Guns And Roses and The Black Crowes' chart success still years away, the success of this dopey but fun rock song seems even more impressive. Of course, the powers that be decided this would be it for The Georgia Satellites, leaving them pretty much a one hit wonder, though that shouldn't deter you from checking the band's other work, which is very rocking and pretty darn stellar and not Bon Jovi.

And that's why this is your K-101.7 Song Of The Day!

And since you have made it all the way down here, please check out this video we made, special, just for you, our review of the best movie of the summer, Spy.
