KTXS reports a 5-year-old girl was killed Sunday evening after being hit by a truck in the parking lot of SeaWorld in San Antonio.

SeaWorld San Antonio released the following statement this morning following the accident.

We are deeply saddened that last night a young girl was fatally struck by a guest vehicle while exiting SeaWorld’s San Antonio park. The entire SeaWorld family is heartbroken over this tragic accident. Our focus and thoughts are with her family and our team to provide the support they need in the difficult days and weeks ahead.

The child was identified as Michela Tirado by the Bexar County Medical Examiner's office. Michela was leaving the park with her parents when she got away from them and darted out from between parked cars only to be struck by a truck headed for the exit.

KXTS reports a life flight was called to the location but canceled as the girl was pronounced dead on the scene. San Antonio police said the driver who struck the girl had no way of knowing she would run out into traffic and that the driver of the truck did nothing wrong or criminal.
