What Was This Meteorologist Doing in the Snow

I saw this when it was happening Saturday night during NBC Nightly News.  Meteorologist Mike Seidel wasn't ready when anchor Lester Holt called for his live report.  Mike had his back to the camera and he was busy.  But what was he doing?

When Lester called for him. Mike's body was slightly hunched over and he was looking downward near some trees.  Lester waits patiently and you can hear somebody telling the meteorologist to turn around.  We hear Mike asking "Why?" as he starts to turn around with his gloves in his hands despite the cold temperature.

Lester tells us Mike obviously isn't ready and goes on to another story.

A network official says Mike dropped his cell phone in the snow and had turned around to find it.

But social media erupted with comments from those who believe Mike was answering Nature's Call at the time.
