Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team held its ground in both major national polls this week as the Cru remained #2 in the nation in both the American Football Coaches Association's Top 25 and the D3football.com Top 25. The #2 ranking matches the highest national ranking in the 15-year history of UMHB football and marks the third straight week for the Cru to be in that position in both polls.

The Cru grabbed two first places vote and 1,009 total points to hold steady at #2 in this week's AFCA Top 25 Poll. Mount Union is ranked #1 with 40 first place votes and 1,048 total points. UMHB is the only American Southwest Conference program ranked in the top 25 this week, but Louisiana College has the 26th highest point total in this week's ranking. Wesley College is ranked sixth this week and Trinity University is receiving votes. UMHB beat both of those teams earlier this season.

The Cru also remained second in the country in the D3football.com Top 25 Poll. UMHB took two first place votes and 599 total points in that ranking. Mount Union took the other 23 first place votes and 623 total points to claim the #1 spot. Wesley College is ranked sixth by D3football.com, Louisiana College is ranked 21st and Trinity is also receiving votes in that poll.

“This team is a work in progress and I don't think we are where we need to be as a football team, yet,” Cru head coach Pete Fredenburg said. “We keep making progress and that is our goal every week. We want to keep showing improvement and make some more strides in our game this weekend.”

UMHB is 4-0 overall on the season and 1-0 in ASC play after beating Sul Ross State University 76-28 last Saturday in Alpine. The Cru will now return home to host Texas Lutheran University for a 6:00 PM kickoff this Saturday at Tiger Field. The Bulldogs are 3-1 overall and 1-0 in ASC play after topping East Texas Baptist 34-28 last Saturday.
