The numbers appear staggering: 84,000 people have lost their jobs in the oil and gas industry in Texas over the past 16 months. This is according to the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers.

Oh and if you think the recent modest rise in prices means that things are getting back to normal,  one economist says not so fast.

When you look at these numbers, you must place into perspective that each of these jobs is connected to someone else. By that I mean a spouse, children,  a mortgage, the community around them where they shop,  and even those of us who benefit from the tax dollars every Texan pays towards infrastructure, public safety and the like. If you were to ask me, however, how do we become more independent of the invisible forces that wreak havoc on the biggest industry in Texas and quite possibly the world, the only thing that comes to mind is prayer.  Not just a prayer of  assistance in a time of need,  but also a prayer of Thanksgiving. Because however he did it, God continues to look over Texas and its people, keeping us safe and still growing.  There are huge parts of the state economy  that are impervious to the marketplace. That's what you call a miracle.
