There is a movement afoot in Austin to change the name of Robert E Lee elementary school.

Seems that when the general chose up sides in a little skirmish we had a while back, he ended up on the wrong side of history. Right now in New Orleans, they're trying to take his statue down from a prominent traffic point.  Never mind that spot in the road is named Lee Circle. In nearby Baton Rouge, Robert E. Lee high school is being rebuilt but in order to placate certain photos of the general, they're leaving the Robert part  off the new campus. Yes I know that's kind of weird:  If they would've left off the E, most folks would have no idea who is being talked about.

The last thing I want to do is discuss the merits of this long deceased historical figure. Please, no drama.

What is worth noting: the suggestions to replace the embattled Lee. Among them:  Donald Trump, author Harper Lee, and the guy who's name gets tossed around whenever political campaigns become especially rancorous drama, Adolf Hitler. Yep, at least eight have suggested "The Adolf Hitler School for Friendship and Tolerance." Keep Austin Weird!

Some brave souls even want to leave the name as it is.

Here's a news report from KXAN TV in Austin.
