Roy Orbison passed away in February 1989.  I had just started in radio, and we received news of this sort in a very different way.  We had an AP telex machine.  It would print the news, then it would be up to us to read it to you.  Sorry kids, no internet.

Roy was flying high as a member of the Traveling Wilbury's at the time, so his death was a bit of a shock.  His kids never got to record with their father, but now, with the help of new technology, and the son of another legendary recording star, producer John Carter Cash, have created a new song from their dad.  It'll appear on the reissue of Roy's final album "Mystery Girl".

The kids, Roy Jr., Alex, and Wesley, recovered an old vocal track of their dad, which was recorded on a boom box.  The song is called "The Way is Love" and will be released on May 20th.  You can pre-order it now on Roy's web sight.
