His name was Johnny Castle. His job? Making sure NOBODY put Baby in a corner. Also, making a big hit record. Hey, it was 1987. And it happened. And we're taking you back there.

It hasn't happened lately, this movie star cutting a big hit song, maybe a good thing. Cos, back in the day, stars ran rampant in the vocal booth. Even the dad on Bonanza and Spock had recording careers. Bruce Willis and Don Johnson, in the 80's, the record buying public made it happen. Also in the club, one Patrick Swayze. Oh, yes. Sure he could throw a punch and make with the sweaty faced intensity, but underneath that, the boy just wanted to dance...and sing.

The Swayze had been carrying this song. which he actually co-wrote, around in his back pocket from another movie, where it was supposed to be about Jamie Lee Curtis, who, honestly, knows more wind these days then everybody.  When Dirth Dancing came around, he pulled it out and played it for the director and the rest is chart history, the song quickly making it's way to number three on the Billboard Hot One Hundred and number one on the boring older people's music chart...I mean the Adult Contemporary chart. Even better, Swayze and his co-writer on the song retained 100 percent of the song's royalties because...Swayze.

Swayze would go on to place another tune on the Roadhouse soundtrack. That was not a hit. Still, I mean, who cares, cos it's Roadhouse.

Here then is your K-101.7 Song Of The Day!
