Omigawd, where does one start when writing about fa-reaking Madonna Louise Chiccone? I ain't got that kinda time. She sold millions of records? She owned the 80's and 90's? She was on the same record label as The Ramones? Is still raking in millions of dollars? Dated both Vanilla Ice, Dennis Rodman and the entire starting line of the 86' Pistons? One of those has got to be a lie.

1984. Madonna was coming off an album that had blown up huger than huge. She wanted to produced her second herself, but her record company thought the better plan was to go with Nile Rogers, hot off the success of David Bowie's Let's Dance. Rogers brought along members of his band Chic, and the album was a giant success, though critics at the time were "Meh." Idiots.

Which is crazy wrong, cos this album still packs a huge sonic punch. Especially those drums, seated perfectly in the mix, so much great space surrounding them as they absolutely slam. Tony Thompson sounded like he was playing with the sticks the wrong way round, Coupled with Bernard Edwards uber-slinky bass playing and Nile Roger's amazing ability to place everything in the mix in just the right place, the sound of the record is amazing. In fact, I'd listen to it even if Madonna's vocals were erased out of them.

Many many hits were to follow.
