It was written by Donna Summer's former drummer, also Billy Idol's producer. The band hated it, before and after it broke them worldwide. It was their biggest hit, taking them from cult alt radio band to the number one spot and brief worldwide domination. Also they were one of my favorite bands, but that's neither here nor there. Ha ha.

Sorry, I liked John Hughes but I hated everybody in The Breakfast Club. I would have rather it been cast with drunk squirrels. And beyond this tune, the soundtrack is dreck. So I can understand why Simple Minds were wary of being identified with the film and this song. They originally re-arranged and recorded the song in something like three hours. They never included it on an actual album and rarely performed it in concert. So good for them. They didn't need to. By 1985, they'd put out seven albums in six years and had the respect other eighties bands would never achieve, despite larger success. So, there you go. That's my kinda band.

And that is why I crown them with today's-

-K-101.7 SONG OF THE DAY!
