The celebration in the photo above doesn't fit the narrative a lot of folks want to push, that Texas was it's own nation and would be just fine if we clung to our lone star roots and behaved apart from the rest of the other 49. Yet here is evidence that Texas knew it's bright future, beyond Mexucan occupation, beyond a Republic under siege, beyond the Confederacy, would be as the brightest star in the United States.

Either that, or these folks really wanted to have an excuse to BBQ. Either way, here's hoping your Fourth was festive!
