Temple Father Shot While Playing Basketball With Kids
Temple police are investigating after a man was shot while playing outside with his kids, and another person was almost hit by a bullet that was stopped by a two-pane window.
Officers responded to a call about shots fired in the 6600 block of Ambrose Circle at 8:33 PM Thursday. A resident reported hearing shots coming from a corn field behind their home.
A woman who was inside the home said she was looking out of a back, double pane window when a bullet struck the glass. The bullet penetrated the first pane, but was stopped by the second.
No injuries were reported at that location.
Officers followed the sounds of gunfire and located the shooter in the 1200 block of East FM 93, which is just outside of city limits. Police say the man was firing a 9mm pistol at a berm he’d constructed on his property, and that he’d already fired hundreds of rounds by the time officers arrived.
While police were speaking to the shooter, a gunshot victim arrived at Baylor Scott & White Hospital’s emergency room. He told investigators he was playing basketball with his children in front of their home in the 5900 block of Stonehaven Drive – two blocks from the home on Ambrose.
The man was reportedly struck in the abdomen, and his wife drove him to the hospital. Police said Friday that the victim was not listed in serious condition, and that medical staff were able to remove the bullet without performing surgery.
Temple PD’s Violent Crime Squad is investigating. Police have not said if they made an arrest.
