Singer Kenny Rogers was born on this day  in 1938 in Houston and had a number one hit in 1983 with "Islands in the Stream," a duet with Dolly Parton.

He got his start as a member of the New Christy Minstrels, a mid '60s folk group, and he fronted the First Edition in 1967.  Kenny was one of the hottest acts in the late '70s and early '80s, with more cross over top ten hits than any other performer in the history of recorded music.

Here are Kenny and Dolly with his (and her) biggest hit-

Kenny also had a hit with the Bee Gees, "Islands in the Stream," in 1984.

Happy Birthday Kenny!
