COPPERAS COVE — Jack Welch wanted his team to send a statement to the rest of the state. Even though Copperas Cove might have suffered some setbacks, the Bulldawgs will be a team to reckon with in the playoffs.

“We hit a couple of speed bumps this year that we felt we really shouldn’t have had, and I think our kids had a resolve about that to finish out these last three ball games and put an exclamation point on (the season),” Welch said.

Cove put its stamp on the regular season as Vondareaz King ran for 180 yards and two scores against District 8-5A’s top defense in a convincing 34-6 victory over fellow playoff-bound Harker Heights in the season finale Friday night at Bulldawg Stadium.
