Yes. I have a horrible secret. You know how certain movies and such become cultural landmarks for generations of people. Well, in the thirty years since it's release, the warm glow of love has grown up around a certain movie, but, honestly, I'm not feeling it. My secret is: I'm not all that fond of The Goonies. And a recent re-watch didn't help. I mean, who is directing this movie? Sometimes, it's a Spielberg movie, chock full of "Spiel-gags" and Spielberg brand camera moves. Other times, hack director Richard Donner (The Omen, Superman) seems to be channeling Robert Altman, content to let the cast just endlessly natter all over each other, the worst offender being Corey Feldman, whose death I was actively rooting for. And, oh, Chunk. Chunk Chunk Chunk.

The fun thing is, Cyndi hated the song, and refused to even go near it in concert at all between 1987 and 2004. Dabbling with it here and there, and the massive fan reaction that erupted whenever she played it, brought her around to putting back into her live shows.  Even further, accrosing to it's Wiki entry, In 2012, Lauper recorded a parody version entitled "Taffy Butt" for the second season premiere episode of the Fox animated television series Bob's Burgers; the episode is an homage to The Goonies. Her son, a fan of the series, insisted she record the new version. Went like this:

Oh, I'd watch any episode of Bob's Burger's three times in a row rather than sit through The Goonies again. On the plus side, you can watch the video for today's song and pretty much get the gist of the movie without having to suffer through it. And that's a good enough reason to make this tune you-
