Back in the day, some record labels would be more about artist growth than if you don't have a ginat hit right out of the gate you're dead mentality that thrives today. For instance, Steve Miller Band, plugged away at it through something like five albums before blowing up huge. Today's song is from one of their early albums, 1968's Sailor. The Steve Miller Band were straight up cotton candy jammy reefer scented psychedelic road warriors, though this song kinda sort hints at the formula they would ride to the top of your older brother's van rocking playlist just a few years later.
