One of the most crushing forms of debt in America is student loan debt. Millions of Americans are paying billions of dollars every year to pay off loans for higher education and yet many are no closer to finishing those payments than they were when they started.

While its still sad that in 2019, we still haven't figured out how to make education cheaper or more affordable for many Americans, a recent study suggests that Americans are willing to do almost anything to get from under their student loans including allowing themselves to be incarcerated for it.

According to The New York Post, a study conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Splash Financial, found that out of 1,000 undergraduate and 1,000 postgraduate degree holders who had student loans, 39 percent of them would be willing to spend a week in jail to erase their debt.

While a majority of those surveyed would choose less "extreme" options like "shaving their head" or "walking to work for a month", the number of folks willing to get locked up just to get out of debt is still a shockingly high number and is telling of the desperation many are facing dealing with this issue.

If you're dealing with student debt, would you trade a week in jail to be debt free?
