An anonymous threat against a Central Texas middle school prompted an evacuation Friday late morning.

Shortly before 11:30 AM, Whitney ISD officials reported that students at Whitney Middle School had been transported to the nearby Whitney High School gym after the threat was received.

At 1:46 PM, The district announced that the school had been cleared by authorities. Students were returning to their regular class schedules were expected to be released at their usual time.

Whitney ISD was the second Central Texas school district to deal with a threat Friday. Brandon Hamilton with our partners at News 10 reports that security was beefed up at Lorena ISD campuses after a photo officials say conveyed a potential threat was discovered circulating among students.

Extra police officers were stationed at Lorena ISD campuses as the photo was investigated. Officials did not specify what the photo contained, where it may have come from, or how long it had been in circulation.
