The Copperas Cove community is still in shock over the recent news that longtime football coach and athletic director Jack Welch is no longer with the district after it was reported that his office was cleaned out.

According to KWTX, Copperas Cove ISD officials won't comment on what happened that caused Welch's sudden exit.

"We are not allowed to comment on any personnel matters,” said district spokeswoman Wendy Sledd.

In Welch's 24 years with Copperas Cove, he compiled a 150-51-1 record, 12 playoff appearances, and two Texas Class 4A State championship appearances, and was the high school coach for Heiman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III and former NFL great Charles "Peanut" Tillman.

Those accomplishments make his sudden exit even more surprising.
