A neighborhood designed specifically for housing veterans in Temple is one step closer to completion thanks to volunteers from a local business.

Our news partner, KWTX, reports that workers from Ellis Air Services in Temple spent Saturday morning installing air conditioning units in six homes at the planned Lee Crossley Veterans Community. The central air units were donated by the company, and the employees donated their time and effort.

Ken Cates, Executive Director of Fort Hood Area Habitat for Humanity, said, "They want to give back, they have succeeded in their lives. They're giving back not just to the community, but specifically to this community that will help home disabled and homeless veterans. It's their way of saying thank you to those who have served."

Ground was broken on the project back in March of this year. Once completed, the community of 13 duplexes at the end of West Hope Street will provide homes for at least 26 people. The community is named after Lee Crossley, who volunteered much of his time to champion veteran causes in Central Texas before passing away in 2014.
