Summer is just around the corner, which means vacations. Which means travel. Which means there’s a chance you can arrive safe and sound to your destination.

You see what I did there? I flipped it. You thought I was going to say that with road trips, there’s a chance you could die on the roads. After all, so far this year TxDOT is reporting 3,660 traffic accidents

imagine every person on the road is stupid

with 1,056 deaths. Yes, that is scary, if you let it be. Just remember how many people are on the roads in Texas every single day. And remember almost all arrive safe and sound.

Just remember to drive defensively. Which, if you’ve forgotten your drivers-ed basics, is just drive like every person on the road with you is a complete idiot. Plan for the worst, and when the worst doesn’t happen you can be alive, and pleasantly surprised.

TxDot is launching Be Safe. Drive Smart. Which is a public education campaign to remind everyone to use extra caution through energy work zones. That’s because these areas are being used more than normal. But, it’s also a good idea to always get your defensive focus every time you get behind the wheel.

Even though we live in a “free” country, we gave up the freedom to wear seat-belts, because, in the end, seat-belts save lives. So this summer imagine every person on the road is stupid. Buckle up; drive at a safe speed; be careful passing; stop where you’re supposed to; put down the damn phone; and for the love of everyone, WATCH OUT FOR MOTORCYCLES.

Have a great summer. Hope to see you in the Fall. ;)
