If you're a young professional looking to network and get an idea of what your peers are up to, you'll definitely want to be at the Greater Killeen Young Professionals re-launch party in Downtown Killeen Thursday.

The free party starts at 6 PM and goes 'til 9 PM with live music, food trucks, games, and prizes. The place to be is the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce parking lot at 1 Santa Fe Plaza.

If you'd like to RSVP, check out their Facebook Event listing.

The party is one step in the GKYP's plan to shift its focus to be a more community-oriented organization.

“The new GKYP will offer several different opportunities to both grow personally and professionally via new programs to involve, develop and serve," Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce Investor Services Program Manager Jasmine Suino wrote via email. "We’re excited to share these opportunities with new and prospective members at our Block Party!”

GKYP was founded in 2008 by the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce to offer young professionals social and professional development outlets. The group is a volunteer organization dedicated to providing career-minded individuals with opportunities to develop socially, professionally, and civically.

I've learned in recent years networking with other professionals in various fields of business is a must. You never know who'll you need to call for insight into a new project or information about something that's happening in the community. Plus it's great to get out and mingle once in a while, and what better place to do that than at a block party?
