Police in Guadalupe County, Texas say a woman lived in the same house with the decomposing body of her mother for three years before authorities discovered what was happening.

KTSM-TV reports that 47-year-old Delissa Crayton's mother, Jacqueline Crayton, fell and hurt herself in 2016. They believe Delissa neglected to help her mother, and left her body in the elderly woman's bedroom.

Delissa and her teenage daughter lived at the house for three years before the body was found during a recent visit from child protective services.

Online jail records indicated that Delissa was booked into the Guadalupe County Jail on July 10 and remained there Saturday, July 13 in lieu of bonds totaling $200,000. She's charged with injury to a child causing mental deficiency.

KTSM reports that her daughter is staying with family members. A neighbor told the news outlet he had no idea what was happening in the house, and that Delissa and her daughter were quiet and kept to themselves.

The Seguin Gazette reports that Delissa was once a dispatcher for the Seguin Police Department. Texas Rangers are investigating the case, and say more charges could be pending. An anthropology team from the University of Texas has been called in to verify that the remains do indeed belong to Jacqueline Crayton.

The Gazette reports that no effort appears to have been made to move or hide the body, which was found behind an unlocked door.
