Texans know a good deal when they see one.

According to the Dallas Morning News, at the recent convention of Republicans in the Lone Star state, "Nearly 90 percent of the more than 8,000 delegates supported the Tesla-backed language in the party platform."  The language in question supports the right of a car manufacture, in this case Tesla, to sell its product directly to consumers without a middleman, Ie.,a car dealer.

The article went on to explain, "Platform committee members rejected pleas by two prominent figures in the state GOP — U.S. Rep. Roger Williams of Weatherford and former Republican national committeeman Bill Crocker of Austin – that they remove the call for direct car sales. Williams is a car dealer, and Crocker is a lawyer who represents car dealers."  Moreover, some of Texas'  richest citizens are car dealers.

That, dear friends, is politics.  But it's also BS.

Look, you're either for the free market or you're not. This doesn't seem like an arguable plank in the Republican platform.  Yet, wow the previous governor, Rick Perry, did his best to cozy up to Tesla in order to obtain the fledgling automakers battery plant – no small operation for an electric vehicle -  current governor Greg Abbott was quoted in the same Dallas Morning News article as saying the state doesn't need no interlopers like tesla coming in here and messing up a good thing. That sounds like protectionist nonsense.  Texas is a right to work state, therefore governor it would be who've you to be more welcoming to ideas which help keep Texas on the technological forefront.

It's good to see an overwhelming majority of one of America's major political parties has rediscovered what free enterprise is all about; now if only we could all put it into practice.
