Temple police are investigating after three children were allegedly locked out of the home of a woman who was supposed to be taking care of them while their father was at work.

Deborah McKeon with the Temple Daily Telegram reports that the children's father left the children - a girl, 13, and two boys, 11 and 10 -  with a female friend in the 400 block of Southwest HK Dodge Loop before traveling several hours from home for work.

When he called to speak with his daughter, the girl said she and her brothers were afraid to be in the woman's home because she had locked them out in the cold for several hours and refused to let them eat food their father bought for them before leaving.

The father reportedly told police the children stayed at the home of a neighbor they didn't know until he returned.

Temple police told the Telegram the case remains active and is being investigated as child endangerment.
