The Temple Police Department has released the name of a man fatally stabbed at an apartment complex Sunday afternoon, as well as the name of a suspect who's currently in custody.

Temple PD officers responded to a stabbing at the Wildflower Apartments, 910 S. 35th Street, and found 40-year-old Simeon Freeman with a stab wound. He was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, where he later passed away as a result of his injuries.

Police say their suspect, 41-year-old Christopher Simmons, remained at the scene of the stabbing upon officers' arrival and was detained. After an initial investigation, Simmons was arrested and transported to the Bell County Jail.

Jail records indicate Simmons was booked into Bell County at 5:56 PM Sunday. His roster entry listed an unspecified third degree felony charge Monday afternoon, along with a charge of possession of marijuana, evading arrest, and driving with an invalid license.

Records showed Simmons remained in the Bell County Jail Monday with bonds totaling $8,000.

Police have not yet released further details about the stabbing, and say the incident remains under investigation. A police spokesman reports that charges are pending a screening by the Bell County District Attorney's Office.
