Richard Samuel Steen of Temple is going to be serving quite a chunk of time in federal prison after being found guilty of printing counterfeit ten dollar bills.

Paul J. Gately with our news partner, KWTX, reports that Steen has been ordered to serve consecutive 41 month sentences, followed by three years of supervised release. He was charged a $500 fine and $100 in special assessment to the court.

Police caught on to Steen's scam money after a woman tried to use some at a Temple 7-Eleven back in February. She told authorities she got them from Steen with instructions to spend them. When police obtained a warrant, they visited Steen at home and found counterfeit money, printers, and a paper cutter.

Steen told detectives he'd printed about $1,800 in fake bills over two months - some of which he gave to two people and some he tried to sell to local drug dealers.
