A local school district has decided that moving forward with remote learning is no longer necessary or as effective as in-person learning.

According to a press release from Temple Independent School District, Superintendent Dr. Bobby Ott announced April 6 that in-person learning would be the only option available for students in the upcoming 2021-2022 school year.

"State and local achievement data prove that remote learning does not yield the same
quality learning experiences for students as in-person," Ott writes. "Therefore, Temple ISD - in consultation with the Bell County Health District - will open the 2021-2022 school year with in-person education as the sole option for all students."

As always, things can change, and Temple ISD will continue to follow health guidelines by consulting with the Bell County Health District.

According to Ott, "For the 2021-2022 school year, we will develop and revise current health and safety protocols that are consistent with local health authority guidance. These details will be released this upcoming summer. Temple ISD will continue to work closely with the BCHD to monitor community spread and to ensure that staff and student safety remain our top priority."

The school district plans to develop and revise protocols based on any changes in the pandemic. At this time Dr. Ott reports that over 80% of students have returned to school safely for in-person learning.

"Our data proves that in-person learning is better for our students and we cannot ignore this," Ott writes. "Remote learning was always considered a crisis response and never a permanent educational solution."

The letter further states, "that staff and student safety remain our top priority."

Let's see what happens. 2020 was crazy and 2021 is certainly trailing close behind.
