Fast food giant Taco Bell, owned by parent company Yum Brands, announced a massive expansion plan in the United States which has a goal of employing over 100,000 workers in the near future when it's all said and done.

Look soon for a new Taco Bell near you  as the company begins a McDonald's like expansion of new locations. This was also included in the plan.

They've also revamped their floor plan for new restaurants. The smaller, traditional hut-like design of the 1970s, as well as the larger drive-thrust version from the 1990s onwards are being supplanted by a new look designed to appeal to younger consumers.  A patio lounge area  is the most striking inclusion in this new approach.

The location on W. Adams Ave. across from Walmart has this new look and attitude. The patio lounge area is very nice, although I rarely see anyone in this area. There have been rumors Taco Bell would be selling alcoholic beverages and that area next to the store would be a hub for socializing, much in the way the patio at nearby Fuzzy's Tacos fulfills that mission in its patio space.

The omnipresence of a wide variety of Mexican restaurants in Texas including fast food competitor Taco Cabana means Taco Bell cannot be complacent.  Following the same old planned just isn't going to work. Oh sure, the drive-through is always going to have a lot of people who want sheep eat quickly. But just as the chain has upgraded it's menu with fresher, better tasting items  in order to keep up with shifting tastes, they're also looking to enhance the look and feel of their retail space, one that is inviting and relaxing.

Now if only they could get margaritas in there!
