Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence” Turns 50

Happy Birthday wishes goes out to one of the best songs ever...Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sounds of Silence".  I don't really know what this says about me, but as a child I can still remember hearing this song.  I was just sitting in my room listening to records and setting up my new "Groucho From Sesame Street alarm clock, when the opening line acted just like a slap to my short attention span.

"Hello darkness my old friend.  I've come to talk with you again."

Turns out, the original version was simply Simon, Garfunkel, and an acoustic guitar.  The record company added drums and bass without their knowledge.  Here is the original in it's truly haunting perfection.
