Police in Fort Worth are investigating after a Tarrant County Sheriff's Office deputy was found fatally wounded in his personal vehicle Friday night.

KXAS-TV reports that 19-year veteran Sgt. Keith Shepherd's was discovered in an employee parking garage. He was treated for significant head trauma and later passed away at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital. There was reportedly blood inside and outside his car.

There were reports late Friday that he'd been shot, but investigators said Saturday morning that there was no evidence of a gunshot wound.

Heavy.com reports that Shepherd's death is being investigated as a crime, but they have not named a suspect. Shepherd was married with children, and was reportedly well-liked in his department.
