To a rock 'n' roll fan, few thrills equal the cranking up of the volume of a favorite album or song. Reading about your favorite musicians and music provides a different, albeit somewhat more cerebral high. I love reading stories on how the music we hold dear was constructed by master pop craftspersons...who also happen to be stoned, neurotic, etc.

It's not easy even for those involved in the creation of music to put pen to paper describing how it all came about. It's a famous quote from Elvis Costello that sums it up: writing about music is like dancing about architecture. Still, I'm glad The authors of these three books decided to give it a try.
