If you've stepped outside any time over the past couple of months, you know we've had a challenging summer here in Killeen, Texas. Many of us have cranked our thermostats down to stay comfortable, but ERCOT is again urging us to turn them up to save energy.

ERCORT URGING TEXANS TO TURN UP THERMOSTATS, GIVE APPLIANCES A BREAK

According to CNBC, ERCOT is once again asking Texans to help take some of the pressure off the state's electrical grid during this sweltering summer.

The Texas energy regulator has warned of the potential for rolling blackouts and shortages in energy reserves as residents trying to stay cool put a strain on the system.

In a news release, ERCOT officials shared tips like keeping our thermostats turned up and limiting the use of major appliances between the hours of 2PM and 8PM, which are reportedly their peak hours of energy demand.

the only Central Texas for Texas as a whole has really had a challenging summer when it comes to the aggressive heat index.

IT'S SCORCHING OUT THERE

I explained earlier this week how the heat index is going to be just miserable in Texas in the coming days. We are looking overall indexes of 110F, which is unbelievable in my opinion. Sure it's July, but the heat has just been downright oppressive.

STAY COOL, TEXAS

I know it may seem like the Texas operators are asking a lot by saying we should turn up the thermostats by at least 110°F and limit use of appliances. However, if you’re anything like me and don't particularly like the heat, I would take ERCOT's advice and try to conserve where you can so we can avoid blackouts. Setting your thermostat into the 80s at night might be asking too much, but if you're not home during the day, it doesn't hurt.

DON'T FORGET THE PETS

If you have animals, please make sure not to keep them outside if possible. Bring them inside and only have your animals out and about if they need to use the restroom. If they must be kept outside, make sure they have plenty of clean water and shade.

BE SAFE OUT THERE

These temperatures are becoming more and more dangerous, so as a unit all of Texas has to work together to keep each other cool. Stay safe out there in Texas!
