Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - The Texas Rangers have signed pitcher Colby Lewis to a contract for the 2013 season.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the injured right-hander was eligible for free agency at the conclusion of the 2012 campaign.

Lewis was Texas' opening day starter this season and struggled with a right elbow injury. He was on the disabled list from June 24 through July 18, then made one start before being shelved for the season and undergoing surgery.

The 33-year-old veteran had a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow repaired on July 27. He was 6-6 with a 3.43 ERA in 16 starts this season.

Lewis, a 1999 Rangers draft pick, rejoined the club in 2010 after two years in Japan. He is 32-29 with a 3.93 ERA in 80 games since the start of the 2010 season and has excelled in the postseason with a 4-1 mark and a 2.34 ERA in eight starts in helping the Rangers to the past two AL pennants.

In 152 big league games, including 114 starts, with Texas (2002-04, 2010-12), Detroit (2006) and Oakland (2007), Lewis has a career record of 44-44 with a 4.76 ERA.
