An online petition signed by hundreds of thousands of people is calling for President Trump or Congress to shut down Fort Hood.

The base in Killeen has been under fire lately following the deaths of two soldiers that went missing from the base within the last year. The petition specifically says the base should be closed following how officials at Fort Hood handled the case of Vanessa Guillen, whose body was found near the Leon River after she went missing April 22.

A fellow soldier at Fort Hood believed to be connected to Vanessa's case died by suicide was authorities closed in on him. A civilian, who's also the estranged wife of a Fort Hood soldier, was also taken into custody accused of helping dispose of Vanessa's body.

The petition has been signed by 694,000 people at the time of this article.

Before her disappearance in April, Vanessa alleged that she'd been the victim of sexual harassment. There's currently an investigation into those claims.

In regards to sexual harassment claims, the petition reads, "many other women soldiers  have come forward about being sexually harassed and sexually assaulted and not taken seriously when they report the incidents."

Fort Hood's motto says "no soldier left behind".

The petition says that Vanessa signed up to serve her country and that she deserves justice. I couldn't agree more.

"Vanessa trusted Fort Hood to protect her while serving," the petition reads. "Fort Hood failed her. Fort Hood became her enemy. Vanessa Guillén was not safe in her own military base, Fort Hood let her die."
