The City of Killeen will be testing its outdoor emergency sirens Wednesday at 10:00 AM, the City of Killeen said in a statement Tuesday.

As the announcers on radio and TV say, this is only a test.

According to the statement, which was shared on the city's Facebook page, "Killeen has 19 outdoor sirens located throughout the city. These sirens are utilized to alert residents, primarily those who are outdoors, in the event of emergencies."

The release went on to say,"Residents are also encouraged to utilize the CodeRed system for emergency notification. CodeRED is a free service that allows residents of Bell County to register preferred contact information such as cell phone numbers or email addresses. Users can choose alerts for a home address or other location and the types of emergencies for which to be notified. Signing up can be done online at ReadyKilleen.org or by phone at 866-939-0911."

Living near a major military installation as we do, the sirens can be a bit jarring if you're not expecting them. With 19 outdoor sirens, it can be a bit jarring even if you do know. Be ready at 10:00 AM to turn the radio up real loud.
