A new law in Texas is putting the focus on taking better care of those who have served our country that are battling mental illness.

Very much like an Amber Alert for missing children, and Silver Alert for missing senior citizens, the Camo Alert will be put into play for missing military members suffering from a mental illness.

The alert system would be triggered on behalf of a missing military member “who has elected to participate in the alert system and who suffers from a mental illness, including post-traumatic stress disorder or a traumatic brain injury,” the legislation reads.

The law requires that military members relatives supply documentation of illness or injury in order to put the alert into play. It also allows for an alert when the missing person “poses a credible threat to the military member’s health and safety or the health and safety of another.”
