South Dakota has a meth problem. Twice as many 12-17 year-olds reported using meth compared with the national average according to The Washington Post.

So it makes sense that the state would pour a lot of money into a campaign to combat the problem. On Monday Governor Kristi L. Noem released the awareness initiative 'Meth We're On It' that includes a thirty-second spot.

In less than 24-hours, it got a lot of folks talking across the country. Which in my eyes is a win, there's no such thing as bad press, right?

I've heard a couple of folks throw the team "internet outrage" around, which most of the time involves like four people on Twitter who have nothing going on in their lives making fun of it. Oh yikes.

I'm not going to lie, when I first heard about it I thought it was funny, but again it's starting a conversation. A couple of articles accuse the state of spending nearly half a million dollars on a campaign that wasn't thought through. I think the Governor said it best with the campaign being “a bold, innovative effort like the nation has never before seen.”.

In the same breath, I understand we live in a world where many simply read headlines and move on. I'm sure that's where half of the comments come from what I write, but how much can you win with people like that in any sort of campaign.

So I hope the numbers drop that's a terribly sad statistic with such young people.

There's not a lot to do in the Dakota's I hear. My brother played college football in one of em, I honestly couldn't tell you which. He said it's the definition of dead towns up there. Thankfully he didn't do meth. But hey "I'm on it".
