Lane Kiffin, formerly an NCAA and NFL head coach but most recently one of Nick Saban's lieutenants at Alabama will be named the next head coach of the University of Houston Cougars football team. The announcement is expected today or tomorrow.

Proving that odds makers are just guessing most of the time, Kiffin allegedly leapfrogged over former LSU coach Les Miles for the job. Now, Miles is looking elsewhere for his next gig, maybe USF.

Kiffin is seen by many as a controversial figure. He became the youngest head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 2007 until he was fired in 2008. Kiffin then went on to coach Tennessee and USC before he was fired there and replaced by his staffer Ed Orgeron who is now head coach at LSU and was rumored to be talking to Kiffin about coming aboard - Orgeron got the LSU gig after serving as an assistant under Les Miles. The University of Houston gig opened when Tom Herman ended up not going to LSU and went to UT instead. What a tangled web.

We'll have official word when it comes down.
