Lamar Middle School, Jefferson Elementary in Temple on Soft Lockdown

Our news partners at KWTX are reporting that Lamar Middle School and Jefferson Elementary School are now under a soft lockdown.

Students are being allowed in through an alternate entrance on campus this morning. Parents are asked to take kids to the Nugent Avenue entrance where administrators then escort them into the building. Police responded to a shooting near the school early this morning.

The suspect in that shooting is believed to be held up in a house near North 1st and West Victory. No students were at the school at the time of the standoff. The soft lockdown began at 7:30 this morning.

Several streets are now blocked off near the school while police investigate. There have been no confirmed reports yet on any injuries. KWTX News 10 reports they have not had a response yet from Temple ISD on the matter.
