Patients headed to King's Daughters Clinic in Temple on Wednesday found the door locked along with a sign out front that said the facility had closed after its parent company declared bankruptcy.

It was a sad day for the clinic and community as King's Daughters Clinic first opened in 1896 inside what used to be a Catholic church on Avenue G before shifting to 22nd street.

The story comes after news of the clinic's parent company, Little River Healthcare, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year. The Chapter 11 filing was converted to a Chapter 7 bankruptcy just days ago. When Little River Healthcare released a statement about the status of their other facilities they declined to comment about the status of King's.

The companies website said all the Little River Healthcare facilities were closed as of Tuesday. They also oversee the Harker Heights Women's Center, a Killeen Clinic along with other clinics in Austin and Waco.
