Back in November, volunteers and friends of the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery placed over 9,000 wreaths on the graves of veterans as part of an annual wreath project.

Now it's time to retrieve them all, and volunteers are needed!

The retrieval is at 10 AM this Saturday, January 9 at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 SH 195.

No registration is required to participate.

The wreaths will be picked up, sorted, and loaded onto trucks for storage until next November.

Participants are encouraged to use the park and ride system to attend.

Parking will be at Texas A&M University-Central Texas on SH 20, and buses will run between 8 a.m. and Noon.

Limited parking will be available at the cemetery, which is why organizers recommend you use the park and ride.

All participants are advised to anticipate traffic and arrive early.

For the past 15 years since the cemetery opened, volunteers have come together every holiday season to prepare, lay, and retrieve wreaths for each grave in order to honor the memories of those laid to rest.

The Wreath Project is wholly supported by donations and volunteers, and thousands of wreaths need to be respectfully retrieved. Suffice to say, they can use all the help we can give them. Central Texas is a military community that prides itself on honoring our veterans, so if you're looking for an opportunity to do that, this is a good one.

Thank you to all the active duty and retired military here in Central Texas.
