We now have an update on an incident that took place on Monday when a Killeen ISD student was struck by a truck after getting off a bus.

According to our news partners at News 10, Killeen ISD has now fired the unnamed bus driver involved with the incident after Killeen police cited the bus driver and reported that the driver failed to activate the bus’s flashing warning lights before a boy exited the bus and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The incident happened near Hilltop Loop and Wales Drive. According to reports, the middle school student was crossing in front of the bus when the truck hit him. If the bus driver doesn't activate his warning signals and signs, drivers are allowed to proceed around the bus. In this case, because of that bus driver's failure, a student was injured.

The student was airlifted to a nearby hospital and is said to be in stable condition. While we hope the young student has a speedy recovery, please be reminded that drivers should always use EXTRA cautious around these school buses whether you see signals or not, and be aware of the kids.

Better safe than sorry when it comes to buses and school zones.
