K-State, Oregon new 1-2 in BCS; Notre Dame No. 3

Irving, TX (Sports Network) - Kansas State knocked Alabama off its perch atop the BCS standings, and Oregon held off fellow unbeaten Notre Dame for the coveted No. 2 spot in the latest poll.

Alabama had been No. 1 in the poll since its first installment on October 14, but the Crimson Tide fell three spots after losing their first game to Texas A&M on Saturday.

Kansas State, Oregon and Notre Dame each moved up one position after they all improved to 10-0 with three weeks remaining in the college football schedule.

The Wildcats, who rolled to a convincing 23-10 win at TCU on Saturday, hold a 0.967 BCS average. They rank No. 2 in both human polls and in the computers.

The Ducks, fresh off another easy victory against California, are No. 1 in both human polls, but third in the computers, who have the Fighting Irish as the top-ranked team.

Oregon, with a 0.950 BCS average, holds a 0.010 edge over Notre Dame.

Incredibly, six teams from the SEC -- Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Texas A&M and South Carolina -- rank four through nine in the poll. An SEC program has won six straight BCS title games, but will need at least one of the three teams ahead of them to slip.

This Saturday, Oregon faces the toughest test of the remaining unbeaten teams eligible for the title, as the Ducks host nationally-ranked Stanford. Kansas State plays at Baylor, while Notre Dame takes on West Forest at home.

The BCS poll is computed by averaging the percentage totals of the Harris Interactive poll, USA Today poll and computer rankings.

Since 1998, the top two teams in the poll following the conference title games squared off for the BCS Championship. In two years, a four-team playoff system goes into effect.
