School is almost out, pools are opening this weekend, time to get a new bathing suit and cases of suncreeen.   Wouldn’t it be nice if you could drink your sun protection instead of slathering the stuff all over your body?

It is a messy hassle.  You gotta have somebody help with those hard to reach places, and even worse you have to rub it onto somebody else's hard to reach places.  (Some folks don’t mind that, but I do!)

A company called Osmosis Skincare just introduced a new product , the world's first drinkable sunscreen.  I know what you are thinking..EWWWW!  No you don't drink the same goopy stuff that you rub on.

You just put a few drops of this new stuff in your water, they claim it will protect your skin just like an SPF 30 sunscreen.

According to a press release, Osmosis Skincare's UV Neutralizer Harmonized Water uses purified water "imprinted with unique vibrational waves which isolate out the precise frequencies needed to protect you from UV rays".

The creator of the product explains how he discovered this miraculous concoction.

Huffington Post asked some experts about the claims.  New York dermatologist Dr. Jessica Krant told HuffPost the products are "totally unsubstantiated pseudoscience" that "do not list any active ingredients anywhere publicly available that might suggest true efficacy in any kind of protection from sun damage."  Krant added that "even known oral antioxidants that can provide some protection from the sun are not able to achieve more than a few notches of SPF protection from UVB rays."

Dr. David J. Leffell, professor of dermatology and surgery at the Yale School of Medicine, wrote to HuffPost: "Being very familiar with the biology of ultraviolet radiation and the skin, I would be very suspicious that this product would not be validated scientifically. Moreover, why would you want to take something that affects your whole system when you are dealing with what is effectively a surface issue?"

In other words, there is no proof that this drinkable sunscreen will protect you.  Drink it at your own risk.

Don't take a chance with your children, you should still slather the goopy stuff all over your kids!
