Temple Fire & Rescue crews were hard at work battling a couple of house fires early Friday morning.

A home at 706 North 4th Street has been declared a total loss after becoming engulfed in flames. A car that was directly in front of the residence was destroyed by the inferno as well.

Temple Fire Rescue Spokesperson Thomas Pechal, said, "The radiant heat from the fire at 706, started to melt the siding of the home at 704 N. 4th Street." Neighbors called 911 to report the fire to fire crews, and also that an officer helped to wake up the family in the burning house.

Fire crews closed North 4th Street to traffic to deal with the blaze. It was too early to determine the cause of the fire. Pechal was also unsure of any injuries.
